Triumvirate War Alliances Poster

  • The war lasted 161 years
  • The war ended just days before book 1, Renegade, began
  • The War got its name from the Triumvirate Alliance of Humans, Chah'nas and Alo
  • The Triumvirate War began supposedly because of the distrustful aftermath of a dark history involving the Tavalai supporting the vile Krim, who poisoned planet Earth and killed 9.9 billion humans
  • In the Triumvirate War, the frog-like Tavalai were allied with the mathematical Sard, a hive species, and the large six-limbed Kaal. Their Barabo allies didn’t continue to fight for them after they bungled their first experience of combat (DL 3)
Barabo eschew war
  • Human alliance won the war, thus taking much of Tavalai space, including the Temple World, Merakis
  • The war space didn’t include Parren space or more distant Croma space, or the far flung Reeh Empire
  • As the Spiral Wars series progresses, Erik Debogande and Major Thakur learn that the War may have been spurred on by conniving machinations of the Machine-race deepynines, and that Fleet triumvirate has been dishonest about humanity’s allies and enemies in the galaxy

Barabo Bungles Battle

"When the Triumvirate War had begun, human space had been a long way from barabo space. When humans had begun drawing near, some of the more determined barabo had demanded that their tavalai friends and mentors deserved barabo assistance in the war. Ships had been built, and a small fleet sent to help — all largely destroyed in several disastrous actions against the hardened and brutally efficient human forces. Barabo had quickly decided to leave the fighting to the tavalai, in the hope that when humans eventually won, as had probably seemed inevitable, they’d not be too hostile. Tavalai had been the true guarantors of security in this neutral space, but the tavalai conditions of surrender had left them with barely enough ships to maintain security in their own remaining space."
